HBN School Vision Statement
At Henry Bloom Noble Primary School we provide engaging and inspirational learning experiences that tap into children’s interests, helping them become independent learners with the attitudes and skills needed for the world today and the world tomorrow.
Lessons are regularly taken outside the classroom through the use of our Forest School Area and regular off site visits. We have our own version of the Duke of Edinburgh award and ensure that all pupils, including those in our Specialist Provision Centre (Orry’s), learn life skills that have a direct affect on their lives and/or community e.g budgeting, caring for the environment.
We challenge our pupils to be the best that they can be. Staff are skilled at helping students understand their emotions so they are ready to learn, using emotion coaching to support this.
Our “GROW” attitudes to learning (Grit, Risk, Optimism and Risk) are embedded across the curriculum.
Pupils are provided with regular review time, individually and in groups, to acknowledge and praise what has gone well and identify areas for growth. Coaching is used to support development and high quality feed back is an everyday part of school life. Live marking is used daily and staff and students have a shared language to support assessment for learning across the school. Peer and self assessment is part of how we learn and children have regularly reviewed/moving targets to challenge their learning.
Our staff are a strong team who share skills and expertise. We encourage professional growth for all. Role swaps and visits to other classrooms, settings and key stages within school happen frequently, in order to improve practice and learn from each other. This includes mainstream staff spending time in Orry’s and Orry’s staff visiting mainstream classes to develop school wide understanding of the diverse needs within our student body and ensure consistent and supportive practice. We also have links with our cluster schools to deliver joint training and initiatives. We communicate clearly with each other, listen to each others’ ideas and create agreed ways forward. We treat each other with mindful honesty, being open to advice and know that together we learn and grow.
We are located in the heart of Douglas and we create natural areas to soften our urban location, e.g. veggie patches, sensory gardens and wild flower areas. Our catchment area is made up of many diverse cultures and we hold events which involve all parts of our community, sometimes organised by the pupils. We regularly invite parents into school to share and support learning.
Our school is a safe, calm place for our children where we provide a welcoming environment with quality resources both inside and outside.
